A digital, for-charity zine centered on what binds the characters of MHYK to each other, themselves, and their world

FAQ

What is the zine looking for?
I am looking to feature at least 1 artwork or fic for each of the 21 wizards + Akira, all of which must be centered on the theme of 'bonds.' Featuring other characters isn't a priority, but if I am able to secure the aforementioned characters, then the zine would feature others. You can feature more than 1 character in your piece, but if applicable, you must be clear on who is the focus so each wizard can be assigned.
Will this zine have a print edition? What about merch? Will the zine be free?
This zine will be digital only (via PDF). There will be no merch. The zine will be pay-what-you-want, which includes paying nothing. But if you do pay, all proceeds will go to charity, specifically to the Palestinian Children's Relief Fund. You can read more about their mission here.
How will you be held financially accountable?
I will post weekly earnings on Twitter. The money will be donated after a month of the zine being available. Screenshot + photograph proof will be provided to confirm the money has been donated to charity. The URL with the transaction will be visible, as will the money donated. After a month of the zine being out, the zine will be fully free to download.
Is this zine R18?
No, this zine is SFW only.
Is blood/injury allowed?
Blood/injury is fine if it is NOT detailed or graphic.
Will this zine include romantic pairings?
No, this zine is about platonic bonds only.
How will you ensure there is no romance in the zine?
Each creator will be required to pitch their ideas for art/writing, which I will approve. I will be proofreading all writing not only for grammar but to ensure it is ship-free. I and every creator will be using our best judgment to keep all bonds platonic, with interactions matching the tone of MHYK's main story. If you as a creator do not think you could keep romance out of a character interacting with another, please do not offer to create for them.
Will this zine allow genderbends?
No, sorry!
Will you require a pitch in the artist/writer applications?
Yes. This is to affirm that you have thought about the theme, that nobody is planning on doing artwork/fic that's too similar to someone else's idea, and that there is no romance in your idea. If you are accepted, you will be able to modify your pitch, but I will still need to affirm no one else is doing something too much like what you want to do.
What are the requirements for artwork?
Artwork will be a bit less than 1748 x 2480 pixels for a single spread, which is A5 size at 300 PPI, or double the width if you want a double spread. These types of artwork must be colored and complete - that is, no sketches are allowed - and it must have a background. The background doesn't need to be detailed, but it does need to match the tone of the piece. Your art doesn't need to be digitally drawn! But if this is the case, still be sure that your scan of it meets the aforementioned criteria.
Are comics allowed, rather than 1 single artwork?
Yes! Comics do NOT need to be colored, unlike single spread/double spread artwork. But they still need to be complete - that is, no sketches are allowed.
What are the requirements for writing?
A minimum of 3,000 words will be required. The maximum will be 10,000 words.
Can I apply for both art and writing?
Yes! But if you're accepted, it would only be for 1 of them.
Will every applicant be accepted?
Maybe! It will depend on the total number of applicants, the popularity of characters (and thus their desired distribution), and whether I am able to assign all the 21 wizards + Akira.
How many artists and how many writers are you looking for?
Based on the interest check poll, ~75% of people want an equal number of artists + writers, but it will depend on the total number of applicants, as people willing to be artists outnumber writers. I will make every effort to keep to this result, but it will really depend on the number of applicants.
How will communication take place?
Communication will take place via a dedicated Discord server, but also via email if you do not have/do not want to join Discord.
Will I be able to post my piece on my social media/AO3/etc?
Yes, but please wait a month after the zine is out!
Will you allow collaborations between artists and writers?
Yes! But whoever you want to partner up with must also be in the zine and amenable to collaboration.
I have a question not addressed here!
No problem! You can either email me, DM me, or send an anonymous question via Neospring. The links for all of these are at the bottom of the page - they're the email, Twitter bird, and question mark icons respectively :-) It might be especially helpful to go through the Neospring and see what others have asked!
Who is organizing this?
